The Exciting Game Of Travelling

“Travelling can be like a real-life game. In a limited time, you look for information, plan the journey, get the necessary items to reach the goal and you go for it exploring a new place”

Who hasn’t had the chance of playing an adventure videogame?; you have a character which goes through different stages in new worlds, accomplishing different missions. Your skills increase, our character gain new skills and the missions gets more challenging while we progress. Travelling can be like a real-life game. In a limited time, you look for information, plan the journey, get the necessary items to reach the goal and you go for it exploring a new place

The analogy

As you progress in the game (trip) you also get more experience (clues, references, tips, knowledge of the journey, etc), finding new items (useful things you start incorporating in your trip: gadgets, apps, etc), getting to know new characters that may influence in the story (other travellers or locals) and also, at the end of each stage having as result the memory of the field discovered (the place travelled).

All the information gathered along your way in the game is a learning that you will use in next stages (next trips), but even for other games (in your daily life). However, nobody started knowing everything at the start, and in pretty much everything, it isn’t easy to succeed straight away.

How my game started

I had been living in Spain several years already, and for different reasons I hadn’t planned travelling. The main reasons:

  • No money
  • No enough holidays
  • No friends available to travel for any reason
  • No friends living abroad to visit
  • No other way I would imagined for travelling

Those were my initial “barriers”, so, my chances of travelling were almost nil, neither enough motivation to do it alone, nor the minimum resources.

"My fears started fading out, adrenaline soared and I started to be more worried about where I would be going next, what places to discover first and how to reach them."

Nevertheless, I got inspiration from a friend. He had been travelling from he was 18 and told me many interesting stories. I was amazed, but at the same time scared.

-“Travelling alone? why?“. The main reasons he told me and I’m never going to forget:

  • “Because I can travel wherever I want without having to discuss with someone about it.”
  • “Because if I had to depend from someone to travel, I never would do it”

I kept remembering those words until I planned my first trip alone, 2 years after. I started to save money with the idea of doing an adventorous solo trip, although it scared me a bit.

Once I did, I felt like I was the protagonist of game in real life. My fears started fading out, adrenaline soared and I started to be more worried about where I would be going next, what places to discover first and how to reach them.

It's never late

I started travelling alone “late”, or at least if I compare myself to other young travellers. It pulled me down knowing that I was almost 30 and I hadn’t travelled yet. But the reality is that, never is late while you are alive and have the energies to do it. And to be honest, at first it was a combination of laziness and dependency on friends to do it.

After I played my first solo travel game, the rewards were much higher than the pains of the start. For myself, it was a challenge. Facing my fears, on my way it became like a game, each new town was a new stage and reaching train stations and airports at time were missions.

As a result of my first solo travel, flourished some new skills like more proactivity, people skills, English speaking skills, decision making, problem-solving and balancing improvisation with organization. After that, I haven’t stopped travelling each month.

"My mission is making you get excited about the idea of travelling and making you jump from your comfortable seat to go somewhere."

During 3,5 years after I continued travelling and increasing my personal life score. I opened an Instagram account to  pictures of my travels and finally decided to create a blog and share my experiences.

My mission is making you get excited about the idea of travelling and making you jump from your comfortable seat to go somewhere. I wish to inspire others to travel, since it’s so much richness that we aren’t aware until we do.

Thanks for reading till here and I give you the welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy it. Get excited about the idea of becoming the protagonist of your own Travel Game.

Leave me a comment! any ideas you would like I share here, I’ll be pleased to have news from you. See you in the next!
